Luzon Grid: Largest and Most Demanding

High-Capacity Power Plants Drive Development

19 Power Plants Currently Offline for Maintenance

The Luzon grid, composed of Metro Manila, North Luzon, and South Luzon, is the largest electricity grid in the Philippines, accounting for 74% of the country's total power demand. It has an available capacity of 13,537 MW and a peak demand of 13,024 MW, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

The grid is currently facing some challenges, with 19 power plants undergoing forced outages. However, development is ongoing, with large-capacity coal-fired and natural gas power plants being built in Batangas and Quezon.

On May 27, 2023, NGCP successfully energized the Hermosa-San Jose 500-kiloVolt (kV) transmission line at 7:22 AM. This upgrade will help improve grid stability and reliability.
